He was born in 1914 in Hoshiarpur. He was commissioned in16th Punjab Regiment during 1943. In August 1958, the Indian Army troops occupied the Lakshmipur area in East-Pakistan. Major Tufail Muhammad was tasked to recapture the occupied area. In the line of his duty, Major Tufail Muhammad launched attack on Indian infiltrated troops and set an example of bravery and leadership. In spite of being seriously injured, he continued to lead his troops in the heat of battle. Enemy troops were successfully evicted and area was recaptured. Indians were driven out, leaving four dead and three prisoners. He embraced martyrdom the same day i.e, 7 August 1958.
