     Post 9/11, scores of militants from Afghanistan settled along porous Pak-Afghan border, especially in erstwhile FATA/ KP after US invasion of Afghanistan

     Indian escalation on the Eastern border using pretext of attack on Indian Parliament to exploit Pakistan’s vulnerability along Pak-Afghan border

     Militants created a nexus with local elements based on ideological appeal, old Jihadi connections, financial clout and extortion to combat foreign troops in Afghanistan

  • 2002-05

     Fallout of US led “Operation Enduring Freedom” in Afghanistan was dealt with the strategy of “Selective Operations” and “Peace Agreements” by Pakistan

     Despite various operations, the problem of terrorism and militancy kept growing. Pakistan supported US WoT. Pak Army undertook Op Al-Mizan

     Nation endured history’s worst earthquake in Kashmir region

  • 2006-07

     US drone strike on Islamic Seminary in Damadola, Bajaur catalyzed warring fervor

     Amid failed peace agreement, Op Rah-e-Haq was launched in Swat against Mullah Fazlullah

     All terrorists coalesced into Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) under Baitullah Mehsud

  • 2008-09

     Op Sher Dil in Bajaur, Rah-e-Rast in Swat and Rah-e-Nijat in SWA launched to restore writ of the state
    People of Swat endured historic sacrifice by vacating Swat for Pak Army to eliminate terrorists

  • 2010-12

     Pak-US relations sored after killing of OBL in Abbottabad & NATO attack on Salala check post. Large-scale public protests ensued after Salala attack. Pakistan blocked NATO supply and demanded apology from US

     USA’s apology on Salala incident paved way for opening of NATO supply

  • 2013

      One of the deadliest year from terrorist incidents and fatalities point of view, while Govt’s initiative of peace talks with TTP remained unsuccessful

      Continuation of terrorist attacks by TTP despite peace agreements and failure of dialogue built national resolve for decisive action against militants

      Deadliest targeting of Hazara community in Balochistan by Lashkar-e-Jhangvi

      Operation in Bajaur, Mohmand, Orakzai, Kurram, Frontier Regions & Karachi

  • 2014

      By end of 2013, Khyber and North Waziristan agencies emerged as major hubs of terrorist activities. After series of intense terrorist attacks on Karachi Airport, Hazara pilgrims, R.A Bazar Rawalpindi, District Courts & Vegetable Market Islamabad and amid unsuccessful peace talks with TTP, “Operation Zarb-e-Azb” was launched on 15th June 2014. It was classified as the largest Counter Terrorism Operation in contemporary times

      After “16 Dec APS Attack”, National Action Plan was announced to adopt a comprehensive approach to combat terrorism in the entire country

  • 2015-16

      Military Courts established to dispense speedy justice on terrorism cases

      Dividends of national counter terrorism efforts emerge as peace manifests with return of international sports and launch of CPEC by China

      TDPs return and rehabilitation commenced in SWA & NWA

  • 2017-18

      Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad (Eradication of Tumult) was launched on 22nd February 2017 with an aim to make sustained progress towards a stable, peaceful & normalized Pakistan with Terrorists’ freedom of action significantly curtailed through a comprehensive approach of consolidating gains in Western Zone, cleansing Terrorists’ traces, illegal weapons & explosive control in the hinterland, thereby restoring public confidence
